Every member of Veterans For Peace served our nation in military duty.  We know the heavy burdens of war and on this day extend our sympathies to our fellow veterans, active duty soldiers, and citizens.  Many of us volunteered and others were drafted.  We trusted our leaders to risk our lives only on just and clearly defined missions. To send us prepared into battle. To take care of us and our families if injured or fallen.  This trust has been abused and dishonors our soldier's sacrifice.  Support the troops.  Bring them home now.  Take care of them when they get here!

29.  OPERATION MILITARY SUPPORT

Operation Military Support.  We bring together citizens that want to participate in helping to keep the United States Military in good spirits.  We send out 200 plus packages a month to our servicemen and women.  Our purpose:  to give our thanks for the great job our military is doing.  To let our military have positive feedback from home.  To show our appreciation for what they are doing.  We will have a trailer in front of the Sky's the Limit Store at 1013 2nd St. in Old Sacramento today to collect small personal items.  Won't you support us?  We thank you and our military.  Riding with Operation Military Support is Master Sgt. John Ubaldi, Iraqi Veteran.  John is a resident of Sacramento.  He has worked alongside several different non-governmental organizations since 2002.  He has aided in getting donations to places in the Middle East that need them.  With his guiding hand, citizens throughout Afghanistan and Iraq have been able to accept donations from across the United States.  With Ubaldi's help, $1.8 million dollars of donated medical supplies was delivered to the women and children's hospital in Ramadi.  His first project was bringing 1,500 backpacks full for school supplies from Iowa to Iraq.  This meant coordinating with a trucking company and arranging air cargo.  We want to thank Sgt. John Ubaldi for his unselfish help and willingness to serve others.

30.  FORK TAIL DEVILS (P-38 AIRMEN)

The Fork Tail Devils.  In WWII the Twin Engine Lockheed Lightning P-38 with it's twin fuselage was a very effective warplane, in all theaters of operation, and feared by the German Luftwaffe.  The twin tails looked like a fork tail, so they call it "Der Gabel Schwanz Teufel"  We formed "The Fork Tail Devils" club in Sacramento in the year 2000, and meet at I-Hop in Rancho Cordova, the second Thursday each month at ten AM.  Enthusiasts of the P-38 are welcome to join us for breakfast and stories from veterans.

We are the California chapters of Military Families Speak Out (MFSO).  Our message is:  1.  Support the Troops!  2.  Bring them home NOW!  3.  Take care of them when they get here!  MFSO opposes this administration's policies in a war that was misrepresented to the American people.  It is our over 10,000 loved ones who have died or been seriously wounded.  Iraqi civilian deaths are in the tens of thousands.  The US has spent almost 300 billion dollars, with billions more committed.  Nearly 70% of the American people are now opposed to the war.  MFSO members are patriotic and honor the service and sacrifice of our troops.  Military Families speak Out calls for an immediate withdrawal of all troops from Iraq.  Thank you!

32.  GOLD STAR FAMILIES FOR PEACE

Each generation of conflicts breeds a different generation of veterans, and as each war or conflict fades, veterans from each generation gather to find support amongst each other.  As we pause to remember those who made the sacrifices, this holiday takes on additional poignancy when our soldiers are making the ultimate sacrifice for a war that was immorally conceived and has been incompetently managed.

Samuel Joseph Tolman of Placerville, with his mount Tornado, is turned out in the trappings of a Union Cavalry Trooper from the Civil War.  You could say he has the cavalry in his blood because his own great grandfather Bruce W. Gillanders held a commission in the US Cavalry during those last years of the pre-mechanized era.  Lt. Co. Gillanders later went on to serve in the US Air Force flying combat in Korea.  He retired in 1965 after an honorable 36 year career and passed away twenty years later.  While Sammy may not yet have a complete understanding of that which he represents, we hope that this pint sized duo can in some small way embody the spirit not only of the mounted soldier in generations past, but of all who have served in the different branches of the United States Armed Forces.

Danielle's attire is based upon that which a "proper" young lady in the era of the Civil War would have worn when out for a mornings' jaunt in the country,  or to visit nearby friends.
This restored ladies' sidesaddle is authentic to the same era. Whereas the sidesaddle typified the fashion and code of decency observed by the Victorian woman, they were not limited to use strictly by females:  The sidesaddle also served as a means through which injured veterans, primarily amputees and those suffering back injuries could return to the saddle; if not for the execution of their duties, then at least as a way to regain more of their former mobility."
