"We remember!"                                                 NOVEMBER, 2004                    "Be Proud"

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Here is comes brothers and sisters, OUR day..............Veterans Day.  A day to feel proud for answering our country's call to do what our country asked.  Proud and glad we came home alive, to live life for those who did not make it back alive.  A day for wives, children, our families, our neighbors, our city and our country to swell with pride for us and for them.
Come on out and march with your brothers and sisters, two dates:  November 11, in Elk Grove at 10:00AM and November 13 in downtown Sacramento, around Capitol Park, no later than 9:45.  That's not two chances to make one, that's two chances to march in both.
OK, after the marching is done it's party time at the Bunker (The Torch Club).  Roasted pork will be provided by Chapter 500.  The surroundings will be provided by the supportive hosts of the Torch Club.  Bring a dish or snacks if you can, or just come and celebrate our day, Veterans Day.

JUST THE FACTS THIS MONTH

Note from your Executive Director.  This month's newsletter will be an extremely abbreviated version of our normal publication, due to the fact that your ED is also Chair of the Veterans Day Parade in Sacramento.  It's a busy time along with all of the other activities Chapter 500 is involved in.  We'll get back to our normal newsletter next month.
Here's one picture for you though thanks to Ted Adams.
                           It's the Get-A-Way Crowd.

     AFTER ACTION REPORT

10/1 thru 10/3 – The Stand Down was held at Camp Pollock in Sacramento.  This was the first time VVA500 fully participated in the Stand Down.  Several members participated, taking on volunteer jobs in the areas needed.  CSC President Ken Holybee visited along with various State VIP’s on October 1.  They were given the royal tour of the camp and helped feed the Veterans in the Chow line.  The Stand Down served 313 Veterans.  It was a wonderful experience for all those that helped.
10/8 thru 10/11 – Chapter 500 held their annual Get-A-Way at Scott’s Flat.  Everyone had a great time, ate lots of good food, enjoyed the camaraderie, and got some good relaxation time in.  Many new members and some old friends came up for the Saturday dinner.
10/13 – President McNeill conducted the regular Veterans Affiliated Council meeting.  Candidate for the 4th district Sacramento County Supervisor office, Roberta McGlashan spoke as well as Chris Parilo, representing Bob Walters, Roberta’s opposition.  VAC members had several questions for the candidates.
10/14 – ED McNeill met with Stand Down Director Barbara Ross to discuss some details of the Stand Down 2005.
10/16 – President McNeill attended the regular Military Order of the Purple Heart meeting in Folsom.
10/18 – ED McNeill attended the clean-up meeting for the Stand-Down.     Continued next column►►►

AFTER ACTION REPORT CONTINUED:

10/19 – President McNeill and ED McNeill attended the dinner for the Volunteers for the Stand-Down held at AMVETS Post #1.  The volunteers come from all walks of life and agencies.  They are a wonderful group dedicated to helping Veterans.
10/20 – ED McNeill held a Parade Committee for the VAC Veterans Day Parade.
10/21- ED McNeill met with Rebecca Lee from East Lawn Memorial Parks to finalize details of reduced burial costs for the member organizations of the Veterans Affiliated Council.
10/22 – VVA500 held a Halloween Dance at the Roseville Veterans Memorial Hall.  During the dance, we were pleased to have representatives from Sam's Club present the Chapter with a grant for performing our civic duty at Sam's Club when we registered voters on 9/11.
10/30 - President McNeill and Mary Lou attended a play at Granite Bay High School.  The play was "A Piece of My Heart".  It was about women from various walks of life that were in Vietnam.  The actresses and actor did an excellent job in portraying the characters detailing the physical and emotional trials that they went through in Vietnam.  Thanks to Lorna Greiss and Monty Montoya for volunteering their time to help the troupe during rehearsals achieve the reality of the Vietnam experience.  Chapter 500 was given an extensive write-up in the play program for our assistance.
